Walk No. 1 - The famous Rock of the Secklers

You arrive to Cluj Napoca Airport. We pick you up from the airport and arrange for accomodation. In the evening you will have time to discover the bustling city of Cluj Napoca.

This medium hike will fascinate you, if you like the endless views, sheer rock faces,

Int he morning transfer to Rimetea, a pictoresque village right int he middle of Transylvania. Above the village, the rock of piatra Secuiului towers with its sheer cliffs. This magnificient rock lies just an hour’s drive from the city of Cluj Napoca. It is the first big outcrop of the Apuseni mountains and truly a scenic walk. You start out on a comfortable path, later on it will be somewhat demanding. As you distance yourself from the village, the view becomes more and more scenic. You will have here some steep and rocky sections, but the trail is well established and very safe. After an hour’s hike, you will find yourself between two great walls, still half an hour and you come out onto the top. The highest point is 1138 meters high. From here you walk till the edge for an outstanding vista, you have the village literally at your feet. On a clear day you are able to see across Transylvania, the snow-capped Southern Carpathians and all the nice mountains to the west. Lots of nice flowers and vegetation at your feet. You walk another two hours, this time almost level, until you reach the path downward. After a steep descent, you arrive to the neighbouring Coltesti. From here you can also include the riuns of Coltesti Fortress, for some other great views. You can spend some time discovering Rimetea and Coltesti, two very nice and traditional villages. (Medium hike. A walk of 6-7 hours, distance: 7 km, elevation: 700 meters up and 700 down.)
